Who Am I?

Photo of MonikaI am a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist and Counsellor.

What does psychodynamic mean?

It is about the “how” and the “why”. Nothing we do happens in a vacuum, and for all of our actions, there are reactions. To change how we do things, we need to understand why we do them the way we do.

Psychodynamic way links your past with your present, with a view to unlock the established ways in which you relate to people, which, at some point, might have served you well.

Unlike other forms of counselling, psychodynamic thinking involves exploring patterns in your behaviour, including the unconscious triggers which influence the way you relate to people, often without understanding why, or how to change it.

How does it work?

Photo of Consulting RoomThe sessions are 50 minutes long, on the same day and time of the week. It is possible to have therapy more than once a week, if required. The first session is at a reduced fee. This is to give us both an opportunity to assess whether we feel we might work well together. There is no obligation to return.

The work is usually on an ongoing and open-ended basis. It is possible to agree on a block of six or twelve sessions, if you prefer to have a firm end-date in view.

How will I help you?

I will provide a safe and confidential space in which you can find a way to challenge the more difficult feelings you might have about yourself, or towards other people. Through our work together, you will come to understand yourself better, enabling you to make adjustments in your life, small or big, towards a more content life.

What areas?

I work with many sorts of issues, and the following are examples of the most frequent ones to make their way into a consultation room:

Relationship problems, Anxiety, Depression, Stress, Grief, Anger
Lack of confidence and low self-esteem, Unresolved issues from the past.

Sessions are completely confidential, with a few, very restricted exceptions, which relate to protecting life. Please ask me if you have any concerns about this.

As all professional psychotherapists, I regularly attend supervision meetings in which I discuss my clinical work. The clients’ names and details are never identified in these sessions, and the work is discussed to maintain the highest standard of practice.

I am a Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and I abide by its ethical framework.
